My old work buddy, Paul Tschida, and I both enjoy travelling and the outdoors, so we arranged a quick trip out to Colorado to do some camping and hiking before he moved down to Hawaii. We flew into Denver (him from St. Paul and me from Atlanta), rented a car and hit the road. The first day was spent driving West over Loveland Pass at nearly 12,000 feet and then on to Glenwood Canyon and a place called Hanging Lake. That night, we drove South near Aspen and camped underneath the stars at Maroon Bells, one of Colorado's many 14,000 ft peaks. The next day we drove to the Black Canyon, hiked at the base of the canyon, and then had incredible trouble finding a hotel room, as everything was booked for some random softball tournament. On the final day we drove back home, stopping near the Royal Gorge, the highest bridge in the world, but we scoffed at the $20 per person fee, so we never actually saw it. Our final stop was the Garden of the Gods, a nice red rock formation near Colorado Springs. In addition to the places we actually stopped, there were many beautiful sights along the way, so we definitely could have spent more time there.
